Understanding Your Mental Health
Finding reliable information can be a helpful first step toward understanding changes in your mood, thoughts, sleep, behavior, or daily functioning. Educational resources can help you prepare for conversations with a qualified mental health professional and explore the types of support that may be appropriate for you.
Mental Health Support for Adults
Adults can experience mental health concerns at any stage of life. Persistent anxiety, low mood, difficulty sleeping, changes in motivation, or challenges managing everyday responsibilities may be reasons to consider a professional evaluation.
Learning about mental health conditions and available treatments can help you identify questions to discuss with a psychiatric provider.
Mental Health Care for Older Adults
Mental wellness remains important throughout the aging process. Older adults may experience changes in sleep, mood, memory, cognition, or daily functioning that deserve thoughtful attention.
When these changes arise, a qualified health professional can help evaluate potential contributing factors and determine whether additional assessment or treatment is appropriate.
Supporting a Loved One
Supporting someone who is struggling with their mental health can be challenging, especially when you are unsure what to say or how to help.
Consider listening without judgment, expressing concern with compassion, and encouraging the person to speak with a qualified professional. If the person is experiencing a crisis, contact an appropriate crisis service for guidance.
You do not have to manage a serious mental health concern alone.

Finding the Right Mental Health Care
Choosing a mental health provider is a personal decision. The right type of care depends on your concerns, health history, goals, and individual circumstances.
When exploring psychiatric services, consider the following:
-
Professional qualifications: Look for appropriately licensed and credentialed providers.
-
Personalized assessment: Your care should account for your symptoms, medical history, current medications, and individual needs.
-
Treatment options: Ask about appropriate approaches, which may include medication management, psychotherapy referrals, lifestyle considerations, or coordinated care.
-
Continuity of care: Ongoing follow-up can help your provider evaluate your progress and make adjustments when appropriate.
-
Access and convenience: Consider whether in-person or virtual appointments best suit your needs and whether the provider serves your location.
